Oar Powered Boats Versus Motorized Rafts On A White Water River Rafting Trip
0 Comments | Posted by Stephen Daniels in Sports
White water rafting down the Mighty Colorado is the only way to view much of the Grand Canyon, especially those areas that abut the river at the bottom of the canyon. Few people venture onto the river and attempt running the rapids on their own. For those who wish to see the entire canyon from end to end, charter rafting trips abound. While there is no such thing as a 1 or 2 day trip down the canyon, with a motorized boat, visitors are able to see the entire 188 river miles in as few as 7 days. This has made the Grand Canyon accessible to more people than was ever possible prior to the popularity of motorized travel. In fact, during the heart of the summer months, there are so many tourists that there are areas of the river where boats literally have to wait their turn (much like an airport runway) to shoot a stretch of rapids.
There are half canyon powered trips, for those who do not have time to do the entire 188 mile trip, but with many charter operators, these are limited to those who are fit enough to hike in and hike out. The hike is steep and tough, especially on the way up. Other charter groups have helicopters fly rafters in and out of the canyon, which makes the journey more available to those not as athletic.

Rams Beat Bengals On The Road In NFL Preseason Action
0 Comments | Posted by Ross Everett in Sports
Kyle Boller filled in for an injured Mark Bulger, and the St. Louis Rams improved to 2-1 on the NFL preseason with a 24-21 victory over the host Cincinnati Bengals. The Rams led 24-14 heading into the fourth quarter, but a Bengals TD early in the frame made for some drama down the stretch.
Boller did withstand a hard hit from linebacker Keith Rivers that knocked his helmet off his head. Rather than leave the game, he calmly picked up his helmet and finished the drive. For the game, the Rams #2 QB was 14 of 20 for 96 yards. After the game, he talked about the play:
“I could have slid a little earlier. It is what it is. My chin strap hit just above my eyes. It was a good scramble, but maybe if I can get down a little sooner, the coaches would like that.”
Rivers also commented on the play, insisting that the hard hit wasnt intentional:
“I was just trying to get to the ball. It wasn’t anything intentional.”
Boller had struggled last week but played well this week. Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo gave him credit in his postgame comments:
All year round Phoenix, Arizona offers some of the most ideal wedding settings in the country. Blue skies and beautiful sunsets invite many to hold their special occasion in Phoenix. It is really no wonder so many brides and grooms choose Phoenix to call the home of their wedding.
While hibernation in the rest of the country is coming to an end, with the snow finally melting, Phoenix is deep in spring with flowers blooming and birds singing. Picture and abundance of flowers from wild to lilies to cacti, that’s what Phoenix has to offer. In Phoenix, every color palate is an option for wedding decor.
Brides choose a color scheme as part and parcel of their wedding that is represented in the bouquets, decorations, table setting, dresses and more. While it is true that winter months can limit the flower options, there are no colors that can not be used during the spring. Bouquets can often become the central focus of a table setting and beautify the bride and bridesmaids.
Dri-fit is making it’s debut in boxing gloves. Adidas has come up with a great glove that wicks. It is called the Clima Cool glove and it works! Boxers say it kept them cooler. That is important. You want to stay cool while working out. It allows you to work out harder and longer.
Why do you use dri-fit in a boxing glove? The term dri-fit refers to a material that wicks sweat from the body. It is normally a tight fitting shirt. It can help keep your body cool by keeping your hands cool. Dri-fit is normally found in clothing, but not anymore!
The Adidas Clima Cool gloves are made of leather. This is a nice feature as leather lasts a long time. Combine leather and Clima-cool and you have a great bag glove. I have to say I thought this was an odd combination but it works!
Keeping cool while training is important. It allows you to train harder and longer. Not to mention it just feels better. Now you still will sweat. It just pulls the sweat from your body for evaporation.

There are some doubts about the use of the grappling dummy in the art of MMA. The argument is that you cannot wrestle with the dummy. Well that is how you learn. You are going to practice your moves and conditioning on the dummy.
It takes a lot of work to become a great grappler. You need to maintain a fluid movement to excel on the mat. This happens by repetition. The grappling dummy works while your are by yourself. It allows you to get many repetitions in and condition your body for grappling as well.
So what skills does the grappling dummy develop? Cardio, precision, strength and confidence. How you may ask is the dummy going to do all this?

Plus look at your confidence and precision after 100 arm bar locks. Does that sound like too many? Well this is a way to get your cardio in and work on that all important arm bar lock.
South Carolina’s Darlington Raceway is an egg shaped terror that has become known as the track too tough to tame. If thats true, David Pearson came pretty close–during his illustrious career, he posted 10 victories and 12 poles at Darlington. These are both records for one of NASCAR’s most unforgiving tracks. Pearson’s ability at Darlington bordered on the unreal, and he was able to follow the conventional wisdom about performing well there better than anyone. The old saying is that you need to race the track, not the other drivers, but that’s a lot easier said than done. Pearson, however, made it look easy.
David Pearson was born three days before Christmas’34 in a tough textile town near the North Carolina/South Carolina border called Whitney. His parents both worked in the local mill and did their best to provide. David quit school after the 10th grade and also worked in the mill. He was soon drawn away by his love of fast cars. He bought his own car and began racing at short tracks in the area. He ran his first race in’52 in Woodruff, South Carolina and won his first championship at the old Greenville/Pickens Speedway in’59.
Veteran point guard Jason Williams”nicknamed White Chocolate earlier in his career for his flamboyant play”is returning to the NBA after a season away from basketball. Williams announced that hes re-entering the league this season, and will do so in an Orlando Magic uniform. Williams is tentatively slated to be the backup for starting playmaker Jameer Nelson.
Williams signed a one year NBA contract to play for the Los Angeles Clippers in 2008, but walked away from it without playing a game. At the time, his wife was facing some complications during her pregnancy with their third child and Williams wanted to be able to spend time with her and his family. His attempt to be reinstated late in the season was rebuffed by the NBA, and he ended up sitting out the entire campaign.
When the Clippers relinquished their rights to Williams earlier this summer, he became an unrestricted free agent. Ultimately, he settled on Orlando due to its proximity to his home in nearby Isleworth, Florida and the role the Magic wanted him to play on a championship contender. Magic General Manager Otis Smith provided these comments on the signing:

Top Three Instances Of Big Game Fishing In Western Literature
0 Comments | Posted by Max Cecena in Sports
These are some activities that, because they are so far beyond the normal experience of the common man, they become a thrill just to read and hear about. Big game fishing is one such activity, and many of the world’s greatest authors have proven this time and again by using the sport as the basis for their stories. In some cases, this has produced immortal classics that will stand the test of time.
The most obvious example might be Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick”. In this novel, an old sailor named Ahab becomes obsessed with the great white whale that took his leg in a previous encounter. Despite that he has both a wife and child, he has no desire in the world other than to find and kill Moby Dick.
Throughout the novel, the futility and hardship of Ahab’s quest becomes more and more apparent. Soon, one realizes that an enterprise like fishing, far from being relaxing, can be a serious undertaking that can even claim one’s life. The crew finds themselves in increasing peril as Ahab refuses to abandon his pursuit, and it’s a breathtaking ride all around.
Rashad Evans was fighting for respect. He didn’t scream about demanding respect in his prefight interviews because hes smart enough to know that respect must be earned. He earned it and then some with a devastating 2nd round TKO of Chuck Liddell in the main event of UFC 88: Breakthrough.
If Evans needed any more validation of how little respect he was getting, he could have taken a look at the UFCs text message prediction poll of the main event which favored The Iceman by a whopping 81% to 19% margin. Or he could have listened to the UFC announcers, who had all but penciled Liddell in for a return to light heavyweight title contention after his inevitable victory. Still, Evans never whined about being disrespected as is commonplace among professional athletes in the stick and ball sports. He let his fists do the talking and with a perfectly placed overhand right will likely never have to worry about a lack of respect again.
